|
|
A friend tries to convince my wife to join her to buy a Quiznos Sub. I did a
little investigation on web. Surprisingly, found many Quiznos restaurants
are for sale in Canada, as compared to only a few for Subway. Well, it seems
there are many many more Subway's than Quiznos around. I feel something
wrong, but our friend can't give a reason.
I love the taste of Quiznos, and it's better than Subway for me. From my
visits to the quiznos nearby, its business looks good. It's a little pricy,
I think it's because of the use of unprocessed meat (healthier?). But why so
many owners want to sell it?
Thanks.

"It's a little pricey" is a dealbreaker for many (including myself).
When I eat at Subway, I like the "Daily Specials." $2.99, U.S., for a
sandwich loaded with veggies, usually something like cold cuts or
turkey breast or tuna (for the Snappers amongst us).
The Quiznos nearby the Subway I go to (Santa Cruz, CA, which stands for
California, not Canada, because of the greater population in CA than in
all of Ca) is usually nearly empty, with nobody in line. I often look
in as I am walking the Subway, further down the main street.
By contrast, the Subway often has 4-6 people in line.
People value deals. They don't like paying $6 (U.S.) for some sandwich
supposed having "unprocessed" (what is that, exactly?) meat.
The meats at Subway taste perfectly fine to me. Ham, salami, etc. are
all "processed."
This is likely why so many Quiznos franchises are for sale as compared
to Subway franchises. People like value for their money.
P.S. I've even eaten at Quiznos a few times. I didn't care for the
elaborate toasting, the relatively small amount of meats, and the whole
"tude" thing. Give me an honese Subway sandwich, no toasting, just the
real deal, any day. At half the price.

Around here, a Quizno's Sub costs only around six bucks; most of us can afford
to buy our own. No need to share.

Sorry I might have made it confusing. I mean "buy and own a Quiznos
restaurant"

I totally agree with Tim. Quiznos isn't a dealmaker. I've tried it three
times and was disappointed each time. I prefer Subway as well.

I prefer Subway too, of course. Quizno's screamed "gimmick" from the
moment it opened. "It's toasted" (yeah, so am I, you don't see my
bragging about it....)
Not only that, Subway has called "checkmate" on Quizno's by offering
to toast your $3 daily special for you. So far I've declined, as they
are forced to charge sales tax on toasting due to some obscure CA tax
law (that's California for you Canucks!). I'd probably pay the tax if
I thought it would improve the taste but I prefer the piles of veggies
with oil and vinegar on the meat. No need for toasting.

I'm with you, Owen. Like I've said in the past, I've tried Quizno's 3 times
(I always give a place a 3 times and if I'm not happy they get the "out"
rule). The first time at Quizno's, I had a toasted chicken carbonara I
think? It was about 4 inches long, $8, and the sauce was nasty - I couldn't
even finish it. Second time, I went back for a chicken salad of some sort,
again about $8.50, but they were out of croutons and cheese. (Huh?
Sandwich shop out of cheese???) The third time, I tried their soup in a
bread bowl. Um, no. Way too salty! I make a much better soup at home.
(Granted these were all lunch breaks back on Maui, so I didn't have too many
lunch options at the time if I didn't bring my own. It was either Quizno's
or a Filipino bagel shop.) In all 3 trips to Quizno's, I used up almost my
entire lunch break standing around waiting for my food, and I was less than
impressed with the final outcome.
Give me Subway. I like the fresh veggies, I like the oil and vinegar, I
like the overstuffing. Some things are good toasted, so Quizno's has its
place (a ham and cheese or a pressed Cuban come to mind - although Quizno's
doesn't do a Cuban). I just think Subway is a better value, has a better
sandwich, and the service is really fast if you're in a pinch. (Well,
depending upon the line, of course.)

I've only eaten at Quiznos once, and had much the same reaction to it as
you. I had decided to try it on the recommendation of a friend who'd eaten
there for lunch the day before, but I couldn't see what all the fuss was
about. Subway is fine for what they offer.

I like both but when I lived "up north" we often ate at Cousin's Subs.
They are better than both and the price falls in the middle. They
should be all over Jerry's 'hood...

How does that work? Do you pay any sales tax if they don't toast it?
Sounds a bit like here where we don't pay sales tax on certain
groceries. If you get a sub at the store, it's taxed. I believe
bottled water is also taxed but orange juice isn't.

No, if you take it "to go" and don't toast it, no sales tax.
If you eat in, sales tax.
If they toast it, sales tax (something about "prepared" or cooked food
being taxed differently)
Strange California tax laws....
I always get my food "to go" but sometimes grab a seat anyway and eat
with my water. Nobody's ever said a word to me - why should they care
about being tax cops? Besides, I am always clean and tidy up after I
eat.

Yeah I agree with you, I went to Quizno's ONCE and vowed never to return
because they doused it in mayo. And Subway it consistently introducing NEW
sandwich's to the menu, the latest is the Pastrami soething that i haven't
tried yet. As soon as I do, I'll write a review. But on TV it looks really
good. |

The Four Pounder. Yep, looks delicious. (This is served only in
non-Hispanic areas, otherwise it's the Carne Asada Four Pounder.)
Jared's back up to 475, and is the new pitchman for the Four Pounder.
Even better are the Two-For-One deals Subway has. Their newest idea is
called "The Fifth Meal." It's two Four Pounders for just $12, from 9 pm
to 3 am, to maximize the effects of the calories on weight gain.
Write a review for us.
