See, I don't think that the problem was the "intense"
dialogue, I think it was that the characters are whiny,
self-absorbed and completely uninteresting.

Congratulations to Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick. I
really didn't think you guys could manage to concoct a show
that would be watched by even fewer people than
"Relativity," "Once and Again" and "My So Called Life," but
as God is my witness, you both found a way.

I have liked elements of several Zwick/Herskowitz
shows--well, TBH, I mainly liked the actresses (and lamented
the 'men' that were foisted upon their characters). The
writing was often good, and they were well produced, but
somehow it always came off too Yuppie. Well, that was the
world they were trying to portray. Well, there's no shortage
of YuppieTV out there. Frankly, I don't think even most
Yuppies want to watch Yuppies doing Yuppie stuff. That's not
what most people turn on the TV for.
Very talented guys, and they have done some good things.
But it doesn't seem like Quarterlife is going to go down as
one of their better efforts. More like a symbolic effort, to
say "Networks? We don't need no stinkin' Networks!"
But in fact they probably do. They're not a good fit for
cable. Well, maybe Lifetime.
