Which Dr. Bernsteins...?
The Canadian or the Diabetes Doctor?
And why cross post to all the different diet groups?

I was on it about 2 years ago for 2 months and lost 25 lbs. I thought it
was great (and very expensive). I had no cravings.
But I did notice that I lost a considerable amount of muscle mass.
BTW, I'm diabetic and my endo dr. told me that it was not a good diet to be
on cuz I was "starving" my body.
"So what?" I thought. But since the Bernstein Diet is a Ketosis(sp?
Keto-something) diet, diabetics need to watch their Ketones more closely.
I would recommend the Bernstein diet if you have trouble motivating yourself
to get the ball rolling. Seeing results in a matter of 2 weeks got me
excited and I stuck with the program.
Note: Since my spouse was not on the program with me, it was a pain in the
ass to have two shopping lists and two meal plans for the week (agian,
expensive). No pain no gain (or loss) I guess!

yeah, better to die fat with diabetes, stroke and heart attack than to lose
wieght.
Same song and dance they give my diabetic sister. She continues to gain
weight
and take more meds and develop more cardiac and neuropathic symptoms as h er
diabetes worsens. I, on the other hand, am on a ketogenic diet for my
diabetes,
take no meds (controlled with diet alone), lost a lot of weight, and have
overall
tremendous improvement in cardiovasclar health., I want to strangle these
idiots that are killing
people with their stupid, stubborn, uncubstantiated dark age teories and
advice.

Not true at all. This is a misconception among those who are ignorant of
the difference between
benign dietary ketosis -- a completely harmless byproduct of the body
burning its own fat,
and ketoacidosis -- a dangerous condition in tyope I diabetics where their
bodies burn their own muscle tissue
for fuel because they are incapable of producing insulin. These are two
totally different things, and it's absolutely
anazing the utter ignorance and stupidity of supposedly intelligent medical
professionals when it comes to
understanding the difference!

As a T2 diabetic I've read my copy of Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. I
decided to stick with my modified Atkins
version of low-carb. They are actually remarkably similar. When i say
"modified," I watch my calorie intake as
well as my carb intake. I find this keeps me healthiest and trimmest.
YMMV.

Congrtatuations on your weight loss; Ihope that you continue to follow the
Bernstein plan; you ch ances of living to a healthy ripe old age will be
much improved as compared with the conventional, starch ADA diet.

(Cross post snipped)
Which Dr Bernstein are you referring to? Dr Bernstein's Weight loss clinics,
or Dr Bernstein's Diabetic Solution?
Michelle (following neither).
