Isn't interesting there are so few posters in this newsgroup? Eating less
is a must...yet no one wants to do it. Lol. They gravitate toward the
gimmick diet plans. I once did too. I've tried Atkins and had success.
But after a while I'd kill for a piece of cake! One slip and you're set
back for about 3 days or as long as it takes you to get back in ketosis.
After you stop Atkins, your body turns into a carbohydrate sponge. Big
time! I put the weight back on because even though I knew how to do Atkins,
I still never learned to eat like a normal person. Atkins. I just can't
put myself through that again. Weight Watchers is a good program. My wife
counts points. She went from about 180 to 150 following the point program.
Weight Watchers is essentially a low calorie diet. You have to convert
calories, grams of fiber and fat into a point value. It's easy with the
slide ruler they give you. We even have a Weight Watchers calculator. But
why not make it easier? I am. I simply count calories. For the past two
days I've been eating 1800 calories. I"m 45 and my current weight is 249
lbs. I'll be posting here and will share my progress. And I'm looking
forward to reading about everyone elses experiences here. Well, I've got to
get off the computer and ride my bike. I've got a 10 mile route to complete
before dard. I do hope there are others here! This is the way to go. I'll
check back after my ride and a shower.

It's about 9 p.m. I went for my bike ride this afternoon in 90-something
degree heat. Great workout. Just from pedaling in the heat my weight
dropped from 249 to 247. Water. But I'll take it. Tomorrow I'm going to
walk for 5 miles. Hope there are some signs of life here soon. Lol. |

Good luck with the calorie counting. Software like the Fitday download and
a good kitchen scale are important for accuracy. Eyeball estimates go
wrong.
Any diet that produces weightloss must have had reduced calories. It is
amazing that this group is usually dead.

Congrats on starting out on your diet. Your motivation and common
sense approach will serve you well.
Good diet, lower in calories + keeping your exercise/play/physical
work level, up + many days = healthy weight loss
After lots of practice, you'll have most of your common foods caloric
values, memorized, so it will be easier. I quickly started "eye
balling" the calories, without using a scale, etc. My goal was 1,500
calories, so a few calories too much was still OK. I wasn't as active
as you are, however.
Stick with it, Hud. Once you see the inches start melting away, then
it's easier to stay motivated, imo.
Do you keep a food/exercise "log", at all?
I found just jotting down what I ate, and what I did for exercise,
each day, was a big help in keeping me focused on my weight loss goal.
That, and just plain old walking, really worked out well. I lost 91
lbs.

Donna, in my opinion you have the best method! Eat less at a time, but
eat more often. This way you will not go hungry, and you'll be able to
follow the low-calorie diet more easily. |

Congratulations to you, Adak.
I've just finished my Day 8 of my low-calorie diet. I went from 191
pounds to 194 pounds. I also jot down everything I eat and drink. My
average calorie intake so far is 1620 calories. I also exercise every
other day for now. When I'm in a better shape, it will be everyday.
Mostly, I climb stairs. Yesterday I was able to climb 180 stairs in a
little more than an hour.
I don't like raw vegetables. What I do is cooking brown rice, lentils
or red kidney beans, and mix them with frozen vegetables in hot water.
I call that a soup. A lady at work was impressed with the mix. She has
never seen anything like that. I told her that I'm trying to lose
weight, not impress people with my cooking.
